The Best South Shore Ice Skating Spots!

Sharpen your skates and get on the ice!

By Christina Skeldon January 25, 2022

Outdoor ice skating can be so much fun! It is so important to have an adult check the ice beforehand to make sure it is safe. Dark blue ice is safer than opaque white or grey ice and it is important never to go on ice that has open water patches. In addition, here are some tips to make your experience more enjoyable while staying safe:

1. Kids must wear a helmet!

2. Dress warmly and make sure to have good gloves or mittens!

3. As long as the ice is frozen, it is much more enjoyable when the sun is out!

4. You don't need ice skates, wearing boots and gliding is (almost) as much fun!

5. Bring a sled for the little ones! We like putting James in a sled and dragging him around the ice after he gives up on ice skating after 10 minutes :)

6. As always, pack some hot chocolate for afterwards!

7. Pro tip: head to  Family Sports Consignments in Pembroke to buy some much more affordable, used skates!

Please note, ice skating is at your own risk. Please take proper precautions!
