After a winter season of many indoor activities, we are all looking to get our children more engaged in nature and other outdoor activities. A visit to a farm offers a host of benefits to your child including sensory skills, teamwork lessons, language development, empathy and an enhanced understanding of agriculture. Now imagine if you could give your child the opportunity to reap these benefits through a structured program that offers hands-on farm and animal activities, games and crafts. Dalby Farm of Scituate, MA has created an interactive summer learning program, "Exploring Farm Animals" for children entering Kindergarten through 2nd grade that offers this and so much more!

"Exploring Farm Animals," offers a different theme every day. The presentation, activities, and crafts are designed to reinforce and coincide with the presented subject matter so that the child has fun while learning. Each day of the program covers a different farm animal so that the participant can partake in both sessions without repetition. Being on a farm, the children are able to explore them through their senses. They will hear the rooster crow, feel the softness of sheep’s wool and see the rich color and beauty of a chicken’s feather.

Counselors love seeing the joy on children's faces as they interact with animals they'd otherwise never get to be around, and parents are thrilled with the excitement they see in their child at pick-up when they present their craft of the day. The creative farm-themed games and activities serve as bonding rituals and long-lasting friendships emerge.
Over their years, Dalby Farm has seen Kindergarteners (a.k.a. 'Explorers'), become 'Caregivers' and then even Leaders-In-Training. Some have gone on to pursue careers in environmentalism, others come back just to visit and some have even become members of the Dalby staff. Dalby Farm passionately provides more than just a farm learning program, they seek to build community and hope to see you on the farm this summer!
