By South Shore Conservatory March 12, 2020

South Shore Conservatory (SSC) announces that it is partnering once again with Barnes & Noble at Derby Street Shoppes in Hingham to host its annual performance marathon, Performathon 2020, from Thursday, April 2 through Sunday, April 5.

More than just a performance, SSC Performathon Performathon April 6, 2019 flip (301).JPGis designed to engage students, parents and faculty in a unique performance setting while raising money to support SSC’s tuition assistance program. It is an opportunity for students to help other students and work together to ensure that everyone across the South Shore has access to SSC’s exceptional programs.  Last April, over 325 South Shore Conservatory students performed at Barnes & Noble, raising over $25,000 and providing tuition assistance to more than 100 families.  This year, SSC is grateful for the Wallace M. Leonard Foundation’s pledge to match donations up to $25,000.  With this match, students have the opportunity to double the dollars they raise.

Over the four-day period, Performathon participants sign up to play during their teacher’s studio hour. Audience members are welcome to stay for one or more sets in between browsing the aisles of Barnes & Noble.  Performances are varied, featuring diverse instruments, age groups, solo and ensemble music.  Here is the schedule:

  • Thursday, April 2:  6 - 9 pm (Studio recital from 6-7 pm, 7-9 pm Adult Performances)
  • Friday, April 3:  4 - 9 pm (Studio recitals from 4-7 pm, 7-9 pm Jazz/Rock/Pop: Unplugged)
  • Saturday, April 4:  9 am – 7 pm (Studio recitals)
  • Sunday, April 5: 12 - 6 pm (Studio recitals)

Audience members, parents and friends of SSC are encouraged to lend their support by sponsoring a Performathon participant.  Donations and pledges can be made online at sscmusic.org/Performathon.   Friends can also help by making purchases at Barnes & Noble and mentioning South Shore Conservatory at checkout from April 2-5.  Barnes & Noble will donate a portion of the total sales to SSC.  South Shore Conservatory is very grateful to Barnes & Noble for its generous support and hospitality.
