Camps at Weir River Farm and World’s End

Dear Parents,

Do you have a child who just can’t get enough time with animals or who loves lending a helping hand digging in the dirt of your vegetable garden? How about a young adventurer who spends hours searching for hermit crabs in tidepools? The Trustees offer two unique camp options for South Shore families – Weir River Farm Camp and World’s End Camp.

Weir River Farm camp is the perfect place for your young farmer to experience life on the farm through rolling up their sleeves and heading to the barnyard to toss hay to the horses, collect eggs from the chickens, and fill water buckets for the goats. They learn hands-on gardening skills in the garden, harvesting kale, green beans, and other delicious vegetables. In the surrounding fields and woodlands, they will romp along with new farm friends in search of hawks, salamanders and forest fairies. Each day will also include creative games and engaging crafts designed to instill the importance of agricultural practices and nature exploration in our daily lives.

World’s End Camp gets campers outside exploring the 251-acre landscape that includes rocky shores, beaches, open fields, and enchanting woodlands. Through nature-inspired themes such as “water,” “shelter,” and “food” children discover the plants and animals that call this place home and learn about the delicate balance within nature that supports all living things. Along the way, campers will make new friends as they sing fun camp songs, play nature games, and learn useful skills like compass navigation, plant identification and animal tracking.

Summer Adventures Camps infuse education experiences and fun adventures in a safe, supportive environment. We incorporate much of our STEM curriculum developed for our school program into camp so that every day is infused with learning opportunities alongside the fun. Your child will love meeting our furry farm animals, digging through the tidepools, and playing hide and seek in the forests and sunflowers. We hope you’ll join us this summer!

Summer Camp Program

WEIR RIVER FARM CAMP

Sprouts | Ages 5-6 | Half-Day Morning or Full-Day

Sprouts will explore the farm in pursuit of tasty veggies to harvest, chores that need their helping hands, and barnyard animals looking for some company. This session is offered in either half- or full-day, allowing the opportunity for younger campers to participate in life on the farm for an amount of time they are personally ready for, be it just a few hours or a longer day. Campers will learn to groom the ponies, care for the garden, and explore the fields and forests of the farm, and there will always be time for lots of games, crafts, and fun with new friends.

Harvesters | Ages 7-9 | Full-Day

Campers ages 7-9 years old are ready to make more connections between themselves and the farms that grow much of what we eat. There is no better way to understand that connection than to pull on your farm boots and dig in. Soil scientists for the day, livestock farmers the next, garden to table chefs by the end of the week, these campers work, learn, and play just like our farmers.

Homesteaders | Ages 10-13 | Full-Day

For our older campers who may understand a little more about a working farm, we guide our days around the question: what is a sustainable food system? From there, our week’s activities are built around understanding what makes our farm sustainable and how we can help to make a difference both on the farm and at home. Campers will have a chance to take on sustainability challenges at the farm, learn from some of our local experts, and mix in plenty of farm explorations, games, farm chores, and time with our barnyard animals.

Counselor-in-Training Program (CIT) at Weir River Farm Ages 14-17 Full-Day

Do you have a teenager that is interested in learning how to effectively educate and inspire young minds? Do they want to spread what they know about nature and farming? You should encourage them to consider being a CIT. This volunteer program at Weir River Farm offers older youth a chance to further their understanding of farming and ecology while developing important skills working with children. CIT’s will practice taking active leadership roles in many aspects of summer camp with the guidance and support of camp staff. The Counselor-in-Training program is open to those entering grades 9-12 (ages 14-17). Visit our website to download an application. This is a volunteer program.

WORLD’S END CAMP

Trackers | Ages 5-6 | Half-Day Mornings July 8-12 or July 22-26

Younger campers at World’s End can dive into the wonders of nature during our half-day explorations through the fields and forests of the property. Through hands-on activities, young trackers may learn how to find a deer track in the mud, build a home for a hermit crab, or build their own binoculars to spot birds and butterflies in the fields. Along the way, there will be plenty of time for adventure, games, and time spent with new friends.

Adventurers | Ages 5-10 | Half-Day Afternoons July 8-12 or July 22-26

Our Adventurers session is for families looking for an opportunity to send their kids of different ages to camp during the same session. This program is ideal for families with children who do not fall into the same age group for a camp session, but would like to attend camp together. This program offers a broader range of activities, less tailored to a specific age group. Campers will explore the wonders of World’s End, searching the tidepools, learning how to use binoculars to spot birds, and capturing insects to identify.

Explorers | Ages 7-11 | Full-Day | July 15-19 or July 29-August 2

Campers ages 7-11 years old are able to connect more with the world around them and understand the connections between the natural world and themselves. Explorers will spend a full-day trekking World’s End, learning to navigate by reading a map, discovering what all living creatures require to survive and thrive, and explore the importance of protecting special natural places for people, plants, and animals. As they discover and learn, they’ll have loads of fun along the way, listening for bird calls, sketching different leaves, playing games, and venturing along the shoreline
