For as long as I can remember I have always loved children's book. I remember wishing my Children's Literature course in college was longer than the quick 7-week class and hung on to the books we studied for years before having children of my own to share them with. I love when someone throws a baby shower and requests books for the new mom instead of cards. We try to make it to the library weekly, and I always choose a few picture books to bring home along with my children's choices. So, when we were asked to read New York Times–bestselling author and Caldecott Medalist Kevin Henkes' new book A Parade of Elephants and share it with you we couldn't wait!

Full of color this adorable group of elephants captures you from the moment you pick up the book. The elephants look like they belong on a nursery wall, or cuddled up under the arm of a sleeping child. Reading it as a family we enjoyed the simple storyline and curiosity of wondering where the elephants were parading to. We loved the surprise of what they do just before they sleep - but we won't run the magic for you. It has become a quick favorite of my first grader who was so proud that she could read it from start to finish with its many repeating words, and concepts. It also incorporates counting with simple to match illustrations and opposites that my preschooler is learning in school. Plus, my favorite for a bedtime read - the characters wind down and go to sleep at the end paralleling the actions we are taking at the end of our day.

A Parade of Elephants is the perfect book for any family with young children, a new reader, or as a baby shower gift to help start a library for a new little one. Find it online, or at Storybook Cove in Hanover, Westwinds Bookshop in Duxbury, and Buttonwood Books and Toys in Cohasset.
