We recently stumbled on a new to us playground that we couldn't wait to share! With more than thirty community playgrounds in our South Shore Playground Guide, it's not every day we learn about a new playground, but we found a neighborhood one we didn't know about tucked away just off Rt 53 near Assinpini in Norwell. Austin S. Reynolds, Jr. Memorial Playground is located on Prouty Avenue in Norwell.
The playground is small with a single climbing structure, a raft-like swing, swings including one for children who need extra support while swinging and a basketball court. We loved all of the interactive pieces on the main structure including things that make sounds when you turn them and gears that turn when you spin them. The playground is completely fenced in which is huge for parents of toddlers and preschoolers who seem to bolt without warning. The main structure has a shade canopy to help with the structure becoming hot on sunny days, but some of the other items were hot on the day we visited so be careful. The walking surface is a combination of wood chips and solid rubber making parts of the playground easily accessible for strollers and wheelchairs. Parking is limited to just a few street spots so please be considerate of the neighbors when visiting. There are also no bathroom facilities so plan accordingly.
