1. Go to the Beach: Whether you want to try to catch a glimpse of the snowy owls on Duxbury Beach, or seals on Nantasket exploring the beaches of the South Shore in the winter can be full of family fun! Gone are the summer visitors and families can explore the shore, do a little beachcombing, and enjoy the solitude while re-connecting with each other. Of course remember not to approach wildlife on beaches. Want to learn more about seals on beaches? Check out this great article from the New England Aquarium.
2. Step Back in Time: There is no shortage of history or places to learn about it on the South Shore. From the Hull Lifesaving Museum with their interactive children's loft, to the Bare Cove Fire Museum with its collection of fire fighting equipment, the Maritime and Irish Mossing Museum where visitors can learn about local shipwrecks and Irish moss, or the Hingham Heritage Museum & Visitor Center at Old Derby there is something for every history loving member of the family.
3. Go to the Theater: While catching a movie with the family is always fun there is also no shortage of live theater on the South Shore. In March, the Cohasset Dramatic Club will perform The Music Man, the Inly School Players will also perform James and the Giant Peach in March, and in April The Academy of the Company Theatre will perform The Wiz. Also in April, Hingham Civic Theater will perform Guys and Dolls. Don't forget about the great performances put on by local high school theater programs - we list them all on our family-friendly events calendar.
