MK Creates - Snowflake Paintings

By Laurie Corbett, Publisher Mom, South Shore Boston January 15, 2015
Some days you want to play in the snow but it is just too cold to go outside, or there just isn't any snow as is currently the case this winter! We have been known to make different types of play dough and pretended they were snow, or purchased instant snow for a little snowy fun, but this art project is just another way to bring the snow inside.

What You'll Need

Canvas (any size) - we bought ours 8x10 canvases for $1-$3 at Ocean State Job Lot but you can find them at any craft store.

Painters or masking tape

Blue paint - we used two shades of acrylic craft paint that we purchased for $1 each at a craft store.

What You'll Do

1) Use the tape to cover the places on your canvas where you want your snowflake to go. Any where you put the tape will remain the white of the canvas.

2) Paint the rest of the canvas blue, or shades of blue.

3) Allow to dry for several hours, or overnight.

4) Remove the tape and reveal your snowflake!

We used this project as a chance to talk about snowflakes, check out some of the beautiful images from Snowflake Bentley and discuss how all snowflakes, and all people, are different and how awesome that makes the world!
