Day Out with Thomas at Edaville Railroad

By Laurie Corbett, Publisher Mom, South Shore Boston June 18, 2014
This past weekend my family and I had the honor of being guests of Edaville USA to meet Thomas the Tank Engine! We had only ever been to Edaville USA for their Christmas Festival of Lights and were excited to experience it in warmer weather.

Our tickets to ride Thomas were for 4:10 PM, and the park closes at 5:00 PM, so we carefully planned our day to arrive with enough time to see everything, but not too much time for major meltdowns, before our scheduled Thomas ride. We arrived around 1:30PM and  definitely underestimated how much time we would need to see everything. Another hour or two would have been perfect!

When we arrived the Mini Mac Kid, who is 8 weeks old, needed to eat. I thought I remembered there was a special spot for nursing moms in one of the buildings and set out to see if it still existed. I asked crew member about the area and he assured me it still existed in the main building. He kindly directed me to the ramp on the side of the building and let me know it would take me right to the space. He couldn't have been nicer, or more accommodating. I easily found the area, feed him and chatted with another mom while I was there. She couldn't believe they had a special space for nursing moms with comfy chairs, changing tables, and even a train table for your older kids with you while you are there. We were both very impressed! Kudos to for thinking about nursing moms and babies. We both appreciate it as you can tell from the grin on Mini Mac Kid's face!

We then met up with the rest of the family. They filled us in on all about the fun they had on the carousel and checking out the attraction inside the main building. From there they rode Jumbo the Elephant, got Thomas and Friends tattoos, listened to some great live music (including the Oldest Mac Kid's favorite song Yellow Submarine), and rode some more rides!

The Oldest Mac Kid, who is 4, really wanted to ride on the Ferris Wheel before our scheduled ride on Thomas. While she and Mac Dad waiting to ride Mini Mac Kid, Middle Mac Kid and I headed over to meet Sir Topham Hatt who is available to meet during differents times of the day. Middle Mac Kid, who is 2, kept asking to see him and every time we got close she would quickly re-buckle her stroller buckles. He is definitely larger than life, and a very cool character. She loved him, but wouldn't get close enough for a photo. If you have a Sir Topham Hatt fan make sure you check out his schedule for the day so you don't miss him. It's a great photo op!

After checking out Sir Topham Hatt, and riding the Ferris Wheel it was time to board Thomas the Tank Engine for our ride! The kids loved picking which car to ride on, finding a seat, chatting with other familes about Thomas and his friends, giving their tickets to the conductor, and of course the ride through the cranberry bogs, past the ponds and through the little village.

We had a wonderful afternoon at Edaville, and the only problem was we didn't get to see everything - our poor planning is to blame! Mac Dad is still talking about how much fun he had, and how it was the best Father's Day he has ever had. The Macaroni Kids are really looking forward to the Grand Opening of Dino Land on the 28th! They could see some of the dinosaurs through the trees while we were on the train and they we excited to check it out and share out experience with you!

If you have a Thomas lover in your family you don't want to miss him while he is in town! He will be at Edaville USA  June 20th - 23rd, but then won't be back until September so get your tickets today!

Note - I was given press tickets to Day Out With Thomas at Edaville USA to share our experience with our readers. The thoughts expressed are entirely my own.
