Celebrate Earth Day on the South Shore!

Enjoy some local events - and support some local businesses, too!

By Christina Skeldon April 20, 2022

Did you know that Earth Day is the annual celebration of the anniversary of the birth of the modern environmental movement? Earth Day takes place every year on April 22nd. Here are some ways you can celebrate on the South Shore and get in on the fun!

1. Outdoor Story Walk, Norwell

Foster a love for our Earth and the outdoors, while also fostering literacy! Join the Norwell Public Library for their first ever story walk! Featuring "How the Rabbit Lost Its Tail" by Len Cabral, a local author and storyteller, illustrated by Kate DeCarvalho; walk along and read the story page by page.

2. 4th Annual Cohasset Earth Day Clean Up, Cohasset

This year’s Clean Up kicks off at the Cohasset Town Hall main entrance, where participants of all ages are assigned different locations to work, or they can choose their own preferred site. All participants will receive a reusable tote bag and a trash bag. Make it fun for kids and create a scavenger hunt to find different types of trash like a coffee cup or a competition to see who can collect 10-cans the fastest!

3. Spring Green Festival, Hingham

What better way to celebrate the Earth and outdoors than at Weir River Farm for their Spring Green Festival. This year, in celebration of spring renewal and Earth Day, they will host eco-friendly vendors and local eco-partners. Stop by their tables to shop sustainable and eco-friendly products and learn about their good work preserving our beautiful planet!

4. Earth Day Take + Make, Marshfield

Stop by the Ventress Memorial Library in Marshfield and pick up a special Earth Day Take + Make craft! A great way to celebrate while educating the little ones!

5. South Shore Eco Festival, Cohasset

Get excited for the first ever South Shore Eco Fest! Taking place on April 29th at the Cohasset Common from 2:00-9:00pm. Learn about sustainable local businesses, organizations, and non-profits that will be showcasing their products, services, and will demonstrate just how easy it is to lead a planet friendly lifestyle! You can look forward to a beer garden with Untold Brewing and plenty of contests and prizes, too!

6. Shop at Zero Refills, Cohasset

Shop at the South Shore's only zero-waste store. The premise of the refill store is practical, easily accessible, and the experience is tangible. You can shop at Zero Refills and know as you are refilling your empty bottle that you are actually making a difference. Bring your own bottles in or buy reusable ones there! Either way, you are making a difference!

7. Swap some of your personal care products for clean products with Beautycounter

Beautycounter believes beauty should be good for you and the planet! With sustainable packaging and an advocacy mission to get safer products into the hands of everyone with a “Never List” of over 1800 potentially harmful ingredients they never include in their formulations, Beautycounter is an easy swap with safe products for the whole family. If you have any questions, Anne-Marie Thompson is your girl!

8. Stop by Derby Street for complimentary seed packets and mini planter kits!

From Friday, April 22 through the weekend, you'll find complimentary mini planting kits and herb seed packets in Derby Street's swag dispenser (located by The Green) and Little Free Library (located outside of Crate & Barrel). Please take one home, enjoy, and watch mother nature create her magic. Thank you, Derby Street!

However you do it, be sure to spend some time outside honoring this beautiful planet we call home! Happy Earth Day!
