If you follow along on Instagram, you may have noticed that my son, Chase, attended the Kickstart to Kindergarten class at Cohasset Learning Studio weekly last school year. The difference that it made on his confidence in learning and the impact it had on his writing and comprehension left me a life-long cheerleader of all the Studio has to offer. The staff is beyond knowledgeable, the class sizes are so small that they can meet your student individually at the level they are at and the hands on learning ignites an excitement in the kids that creates such an impactful experience for them. Fall is here and lessons at Cohasset Learning Studio have launched. We offer a multitude of services between 9:30-3:00 Monday through Friday for your preschool aged child. Come join us!
How can the studio support my child’s speech and language difficulties?
Our therapists will listen to your concerns and conduct a screener to determine the needs and a starting point for intervention. The studio space is set up for warm, comfortable lessons that allow for productive learning. Our Speech and Language Pathologists are ASHA certified and MA Licensed.
Through playful instruction, children with speech needs will be taught how to move the parts of their mouth to produce a sound. Lessons will target the sound in isolation and at the word, and sentence level of speech. Children will engage in several delightful activities to allow for repetition, practice, and generalization.
Likewise, children with delayed expressive language will participate in activities that promote language usage in specific ways. This includes repetition, using picture books, engaging activities, songs, and curated play experiences.
At the end of each lesson, the therapist will share details about your child’s progress and next steps. You are encouraged to follow up with your child at home during the time between lessons.
How can the studio support my child’s motor skills and/or sensory needs?
Just like with speech, the therapist will listen to your concerns and conduct a screener to determine the needs and a starting point for intervention.
OT sessions for preK children might target hand-eye coordination, visual memory, posture, fine motor skills, pencil/crayon grip and control, and bilateral hand coordination. The studio space is set up like a classroom and is not a clinical setting for occupational therapy. OT at the studio is best for students who need support in classroom readiness skills.
My child already has a therapist but I want to give them more opportunities to practice speech and/or fine motor skills. How can you support them?
We offer early learning groups for children ages 3 to 5. These groups are primarily focused on early literacy and number sense. Our curriculum includes direct instruction on phonemic awareness development, which will complement their speech therapy, and fine motor skills and letter writing, which will complement their OT. The small group setting provides a gentle space to practice oral language, transitions, and classroom routines. Learn more about it here. Or, read about their program on last fall’s blog post.

How can the studio support my child who has trouble following routines and engaging appropriately in a classroom?
Book a private lesson with our Speech and Language Pathologist at the same time as one of our small groups. The SLP can work on skill instruction in a private room and then join the group in the classroom to work on integrating the skills in a classroom setting.
