When you have young children and you want to go out for an upscale dinner it usually means adding a hundred dollars or more to your evening to pay for a sitter. We're all about date nights, and even have a column dedicated to them, but sometimes you want to go out for an upscale evening with the whole family. Until recently we didn't think this was possible with our kids, but the chef at The Quarry Restaurant, in Hingham, recently invited us to dine with them as their guests and they changed our minds!
The dining room is clean and comfortable and our booth was perfect for giving the kids space and a beautiful view of the quarry. I loved that when they asked the kids if they wanted to color they brought them crayons and blank paper - perfect for encouraging creativity. All three kids chose variations on the angel hair pasta and they all devoured it along with the Hornstra Farms ice cream sundaes that came with their meals. The kids' menu also includes great options such as grilled filet medallions, burger sliders, a simple green salad, cheese agnolotti and chicken fingers. It is kid friendly but encourages kids to try something just a little different. My three year old learned he loves fresh bread dipped in oil, and not just any oil, but tableside prepared oil with elephant garlic and a house blend of herbs!
While they enjoyed their dinners my husband and I had just enough time to enjoy our delicious meals, and even try some decadent desserts. I could have easily sipped the tomato saffron broth from my Local Lobster Brodetto, and might have said it out loud with my seven-year-old offering me her spoon. If you have room after dinner don't miss the Cider Doughnut Sundae!
I love that we were all able to go out for an upscale, dining experience without feeling like we should have left the kids at home.
