MK Creates - Moon Paintings with Craters

By Laurie Corbett January 29, 2015
Last weekend at our Miles from Tomorrowland Premiere Party our little astronauts blasted their way to the moon in our rocket. When they returned to Earth they created some great artwork of their destination. They had so much fun creating their moon paintings we thought we would share the project with you!

What You'll Need

Black Paper - we used black cardstock but construction paper would work too.
White Tempera Paint
Cup For Mixing Paint (we used a paper cup)
Flour
Paint Brushes
Chalk or Pencil
Round Cup or Mug - to trace
Plastic Bottle Lid - we used milk jug lids, but water or soda bottle lids work too
Star Stickers

What You'll Do

1) Pour about 1/2 cup of white paint per painter into a cup or bowl.

2) Add flour until you the you have the consistency of thick pancake batter. Set aside.

3) Use the chalk, or pencil, to trace the bottom of your cup or mug (round Tupperware works too) onto the black paper.

4) Place star sticker in the space outside of the circle. This becomes your sky.

5) Paint the white paint into the inside of the circle. Don't be afraid to glob it on thick to resemble the bumpy surface of the moon.

6) Use the bottle cap to make craters in the moon.

7) Let dry and enjoy your moon painting!
