Make Your Own Marble at the Marshfield Farmers' Market

By Lorrie Dahlen, Market Manager, Marshfield Farmers' Market August 28, 2014
There has always been a settled, comforting feeling whenever I am headed home after a vacation or an extended stay away.  If flying it would hit me as I began to see the trees dotting the New England landscapes, filling me from the inside with happiness.  In fall the colors from above made me imagine I was on a reconnaissance mission for finding the perfect spots to take pictures for a fall foliage calendar.  The foliage isn’t changing yet, thankfully, and we have several weeks of good growing weather remaining but that feeling of coming home is hitting me as the Farmers Market returns to its year-round home at the Fairgrounds after two weeks on the town green.   It feels good to be headed home.  People are returning from vacations or making plans for one last big party for the Labor Day weekend, then children are heading back to school and we are all “home” again.

With seven weeks remaining to the summer farmers’ market season the flowers and produce are fabulous with fun items like sunflowers, watermelons and heirloom tomatoes which take all summer to develop into perfect specimens. Shopping at the Farmers’ Market means coming home to a dinner that will be tasty, local, and healthful whether you purchase something prepared or go for the fresh produce, local meats and dairy products.

This week the live music returns with The Harper and The Minstrel.  The kids get a special treat from Jenny D, she is bringing all the goods for “Make-Your-Own-Marble” week; after making a marble kids may select one that is fully finished from Jenny’s collection.  If the weather cooperates then this will be the final week for pony rides at the market too.

The Marshfield Farmers’ Market is held every Friday 2-6 pm at the Marshfield fairgrounds (140 Main st.) in an indoor/outdoor setting making it accessible to all no matter the weather.  It offers free parking and admission, free kids’ activities and demonstrations as well as live music every week.  The grounds are stroller and wheelchair friendly with handicapped parking inside the gates.  SNAP EBT may be used at the market as well as debit cards at the managers’ booth inside.  For more information visit MarshfieldFair.org/fm.htm, call 781-635-0889 or find them on Facebook and Twitter.
