Weekend commemorates 100th anniversary of extinction of the Passenger Pigeon

Join the South Shore Natural Science Center in September as we observe the 100th anniversary of the extinction of the Passenger Pigeon. Once one of the most abundant birds in North America (if not the world), the species disappeared in the first few years of the twentieth century.

The Pigeon Wants a Party! 

Saturday, September 6, 10:30am – 12:00pm

Author Mo Willem’s popular Pigeon and his sidekick Duckling invite you to join the flock and celebrate their quirky antics in this program for children at the South Shore Natural Science Center.  You’ll have feathery fun discovering other famous pigeons, from Bernice - Bert’s dancing pigeon on Sesame Street, to Martha- the most famous extinct Passenger Pigeon. You’ll also enjoy a light lunch of The Pigeon’s favorite foods-hot dogs and cookies!

Fee: $15 Full Member Child, $18 Non-Member Child (Adults are free)

In June of 1962, the South Shore Natural Science Center in Norwell was founded with a mission to provide natural science experiences that educate, excite and commit every generation to conserve the environment, and to encourage use, stewardship and enjoyment of our natural resources.  This mission is instilled throughout the Science Center’s educational programming, summer day camp and preschool.  In 2011, SSNSC became an organization of South Shore YMCA.
