Last week my two year old daughter and I enjoyed a beautiful spring morning at the Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR) Playground at Nantasket Beach in Hull.  The playground is located right outside of the Mary Jeanette Murray Bath House, just steps from the beach and the Paragon Carousel.  The playground consists of a small swing set with swings for infants as well as older children and a climbing structure that is designed to look like a ship.  My two year old was able to navigate the structure without help and spent most of her time sliding down the tunnel slide.  She also enjoyed running and jumping with her friend on the soft padded ground that covers the entire playground area.

We enjoy the DCR Playground for many reasons.  The proximity of the parking, beach, carousel, picnic area and boardwalk are huge perks.  Not to mention the convenience of the public bathrooms with a toddler who is being potty trained!  As we get closer to swimming weather, however, there are a few drawbacks as well.  During the summer, parking can be costly and challenging to find.  The playground tends to be crowded when the tide is in. There is also limited shade to provide relief on very hot sunny days.  My favorite time to visit the DCR Playground is right now while school is still in session, the weather is mild, and the parking is still free!
