MK Review: CreYo Self Serve Frozen Yogurt Bar

Frozen yogurt at its finest

By Laurie Corbett, Publisher Mom, South Shore Boston March 22, 2013
UPDATE (June 2017) - CreYo is no longer open in their Marshfield location. Make sure you check them out in Scituate Harbor!

Last week we made the trip down to Marshfield to check out CreYo Self Serve Frozen Yogurt Bar to try out their frozen yogurt. Their name means "chill" in Greek but is also a play on CREate Your Own since they strive to be a place where you can create your own yogurt masterpiece and your own experience. We weren't disappointed and you won't be either!

CreYo opened this past August in the Webster Square (Shaw's Plaza) in Marshfield. When you enter you immediately notice how clean everything is. Kosta, the owner of CreYo, prides himself on how clean they keep everything from the self-serve machines to the glossy white tables. While we were there visiting we saw employees wipes down the machines, self-serve topping area, and tables more than once. They definitely pride themselves on cleanliness which is a welcome sight in the food service industry! Their decor is simple, yet inviting and we all loved the huge photos of fresh produce on the walls. They also consciously chose not to place televisions in their space instead hope to encourage people to connect with each other.

When it came to the frozen yogurt I couldn't decide what flavor to try so instead I sneaked two side by side in my cup. I went for peanut butter and salted caramel pretzel! I topped it with a bunch of different chocolate toppings and it was SO good! I liked the peanut butter the most, but would definitely go back for both. I'm a sucker for anything peanut butter and chocolate! My 2 year old always gets vanilla when it comes to frozen yogurt, or ice cream, and our trip to CreYo was no exception. I lifted her up so she could see the different topping choices and the first thing she said was "I want the things that pop in my mouth". I quickly figured out that she was talking about "bobas" which are a fruit flavored tapioca product that "burst" in your mouth when you bite them. She loves them! She also added mini marshmallows from the dry toppings area and is still talking about them! My husband, who claims not to like frozen yogurt, seemed to easily finish off his cup of espresso frozen yogurt topped with all things chocolate. I think CreYo may have even won him over!

They carry 86 different flavors in a rotating line-up, and always have 15 different flavors on 5 separate machines! Then they have 20 dry toppings to choose from, and an additional wet toppings bar which includes things such as fruit and candy. With that kind of selection there is truly something for everyone! You can see the flavors that are available each day on their website, and according to Kosta Triple Chocolate, Espresso and Cookies & Creme are the fan favorites. They also have an easily accessible binder with nutritional, and allergy, information on each offering making it easy for parents of children with special diets to choose what is best for their kids. They also have no gluten, dairy free and no sugar options so no mater what your diet or special food needs are chances are they have something for you!

Kosta, and his team at CreYo, pride themselves in serving a higher quality frozen yogurt with fewer preservatives. They are also launching a frozen Greek yogurt line that no one else around carries. It will be higher in protein and have lots of good probiotics. If frozen yogurt isn't your thing they offer fresh yogurt from Kosta's mother-in-law's secret recipe from Greece going back 80 years! Wouldn't that make a great afternoon snack topped with some fresh fruit?!

If you are looking for a yummy snack, or dessert, head down to their Marshfield location and tell them Macaroni Kid sent you! They also offer birthday parties complete with a magician! Wouldn't that be a fun and unique way to celebrate?!

In the meantime, you can find them online at www.cre-yo.com, on Facebook, or by calling (781) 834-CREYO
