We asked and they answered. Here are a few things teachers want parents to know as we head back to school over the next few weeks.

"Know that as teachers we are as excited, nervous, happy, etc about the first days as they and their kids are!" - Katie M., Special Education Teacher

"Understand that young children ARE learning as they play. And send I extra clothes." - Kristyn R., Preschool
Teacher

"Make sure the kids know how they are getting home at the end of the day." - Amy G., 3rd Grade Teacher

"Send children to school in clothes they can move in and in sneakers. All the better to play, run, turn upside down, and roll in the grass." - Arlene O. P.E. & Health Teacher

"Regularly ask your kids questions that help them be responsible for their own belongings. For example, 'look around, are you leaving with everything you came with/need?' Leave questions open ended, and provide additional cues if needed. This teaches far more independence than saying 'don't forget to pack your pencils'" - Rachael B., Middle School Teacher

"Volunteer in the classroom and help with classroom supplies!" - Kerry G., 3rd Grade Teacher

"Make sure they can open the snack containers/lunch items you send, wear comfy clothes, sneakers, leggings if they wear dresses (no tights), and jackets they can put on and zip/button themselves." - Jill J., Preschool Teacher

"Practice opening a pad lock (or combination lock) to ease the opening a locker anxiety." - Alexandra G., Middle School Teacher

"Wear clothes that are okau to get dirty, paint or marker on them! It happens!!" - Renee C., First Grade Teacher

"Work out an organization plan and plan to use the homework agenda." Diana G., Middle School Teacher
