Touch a Boat Coming to Hingham Harbor

The Friends of Hingham Harbor are once again helping the Hingham Harbormaster kick off summer with the popular Touch A Boat event on Saturday, June 4th from 9:30 AM to 12:30 PM at Iron Horse Park in Hingham Harbor. The event combines family-friendly seaside themed exhibits and events with boating and water safety education.
 
Children are encouraged to climb aboard the Hingham Harbormaster boat, explore a working Lobster Boat, and enjoy a tour of Hingham Harbor, compliments of our friends Freedom Boat Club.
 
Wear your own life jackets!! Not only will the Coast Guard Auxiliary be there to make sure they fit properly, but you’ll automatically be entered to win a great prize, a two hour sunset family fishing adventure with South Shore Jr. Anglers, a new Kids’ Fishing Camp! 

 
The Boston Police Dive Team, a new partner this year will be present to share their cool dive gear and underwater rescue technology. NOAA/ Stellwagen Bank National Marine will help  kids will learn all about the science under the sea, and will have the chance to become a Shipwreck Detective. A Professional Sand Sculptor will share the secrets to building the biggest and best castles on the beach. There will be music, crafts, games, and water relay races.
 
For the grown up kids, the US Power Squadron will be bringing their Boating Skills Virtual Trainer. This unit, which some may have seen at this year’s Boat Show, is similar to a flight simulator for airline pilot training. It simulates the operation of a Boston Whaler on a lake, allowing the operator to learn basic and advanced boating skills in a safe environment.
